An open letter to "Rory Gibson"

I'm sure everyone is now aware, seen and heard of the "Keeping It Light" video that was released with Liberal MP and former human rights commissioner Tim Wilson and Andrew Hastie having a discussion on Gay Marriage. We all have an opinion and allowed to air it, but I want to write an open letter to Rory Gibson after his, somewhat, unnecessary article on news.com.au

I just want to make one point in this letter to you, you are a privileged, straight, white male. You have the ability to write an article to voice your opinion on a national level with one single button. You should be using this platform to support something so vital in Australia's community, and if you don't, then don't write anything at all, we don't need more bigots like you in a country that is so ahead of it's time in some ways, yet so backward in others.


You are right there is nothing more Australian than two people sitting down sharing a drink and if we filmed all conversations that happened over a beer it probably wouldn't even touch the sides, this video was created for a reaction, but what it got was backlash and rightly so, but also note there is three in the video, but don't worry I won't get personal by calling you a twat for not being able to count or having an opinion. I like how you make a point of saying "our diversity and inclusiveness as a nation" again ahead in some way's but backward in others. People are still fighting for inclusiveness across all races, sexualities and trans too. Australia is not as diverse and inclusive as your privileged straight white male self would think.


It's not the fact people are just sitting down and having a "light discussion on a heavy topic" it is a topic that has been is an issue for many if not most Australian's. Same Sex Marriage, a basic human right for everyone is marriage.


How dare you label people with an opinions as "ignorant twats" when we have just watched the "Bible Society", which is heavily sponsored by Coopers, create an unnecessary video whilst drinking their sponsor's beer. Of course this gives Coopers bad press, of course people in Australia want to boycott Coopers! Same Sex rights its a HUGE topic here in Australia. It's not just coopers, bible society or the true ignorant twat's in this (those in the video) it is in fact the whole combination. No matter what beer it was, it would be the same outcome.


So you said "flushed out bigots from their beard-grooming salons" why the heavy stereotype, why the sweeping statements? The pubs and bars opinions are a disgrace hey? Clearly your local pubs have stopped serving your nice icy cold Cooper's beer and you've clearly thrown your dummy out of the pram. You are forgetting that your whole article is not only bigotry, its stereo-typing, its offensive and, as you put it, un-Australian.


See Rory, the problem I have with you, and your completely irrelevant and unnecessary article is this. You are the majority, you have the ability to create a voice and an opinion on a platform the minority don't have, for all "labels" instead of writing an article full of sweeping statements, stereotypes and insults.
